Current lineup "as is" before Trades/Drafting/Free Agency:

Drouin - Suzuki - Gallagher
Tatar - Kotkaniemi - Armia
Lehkonen - Danault - (Domi)
Byron - Poehling - Weal

Chiarot - Weber
Kulak - Petry
Romanov - Juulsen

Here's the changes I'd try for, in order, by position:

- Add Top-6 RW with Size (6M)
- Add Bottom-6 RW with Size (3M)

Sign Kovalchuk for 1-year/3.5M if first option can't be done.

- Offer-Sheet Sergachev (8-year/8M)
- If a suitable LD is not possible, stand pat. (Romanov is signed)
- Continue to bury Alzner for next 2 years in AHL (saves $1,125,000/year on the cap)

- Sign a 30-game "1-B" NHL backup like Boston did with Halak. (i.e. Khudobin, Greiss, etc.)

- Alternatively, consider trading Domi (rumoured interest from PIT) for Jarry or DeSmith.

- Domi or Mete (RFA-Trade Bait)
- Weise, Folin, Kincaid (UFA)
- Hudon (RFA-probably heading to Europe)

Trade Lindgren for a pick/prospect to make room for G Demchenko on the farm. (Good prospect tandem with Primeau)

* If successful with FWD options 1 & 2, Sergachev, and a B/U G, the Salary Cap = 80.5M.

- It's Time for Bargain-Hunting: A lot of teams need to clear cap space. (Carolina got a 1st this year for taking on the Marleau salary dump.)

- Leverage cap space to get picks/prospects from teams up against a flat cap for the next 3 years.

- Go Big or Stand Pat: If you can't get the deal you want, stand pat. In-season space = more opportunities to address in-season needs, especially at the Trade Deadline.

- Lock-up the Core: Extend Gallagher, Danault, Petry, Armia before they're UFA's in '22 on deals with reasonable term.

- Cap Management: With only 63M, 39M, & 27M committed over the next 3 years, the Habs have an enviable cap situation. Manage it, and LEVERAGE it.

- The Draft: With 14 picks this year, and 11 next year, the Habs are in a great position to add to one of the best systems in the NHL. OR. move up in the draft and grab a truly high-end piece that fits.

- In short, the Habs are in a great position to take advantage of some cash-strapped teams.

- Lots of Cap Space & Picks = flexibility.

- If the A-plans don't work out, there'll be some interesting B-plans to consider, along with standing pat if/when it makes sense to do so.

Easy no from MTL.

Tampa needs lifelines from other teams, but as the saying goes, they'll throw them anchors.

A team like NJ could truly weoponize their cap space.

Ghost has been on the market for at least a year. There's a reason for that.

NO from MTL.

MTL doesn't have to trade anyone. They can maintain a roster of 22 instead of 23 and be cap compliant.
